As communication professionals you would be required to create a strategy roadmap of how you envision the function to be and align communication business goals with the organization. It is very important for you to know what you are trying to achieve via employee communications and key messages which you are trying to drive in the company.

FOLLOW AIER- ATTRACT, INFORM, ENGAGE AND RETAIN

The AIER approach can just be your starting guide in penning down the employee communications strategy for your organization. AIER is the complete employee life cycle and the communication enablers, which you can use at every stage.

ATTRACT

In the attract phase we are initiating a pull strategy to attract talent to the organization. Here is what it will capture.

What is the objective?

The key objective is to attract prospective employees to your organization. This is a classic pull strategy more effective than the push one since people don’t like to receive emails, spams by companies that doesn’t interest them.

Channels you can use

List down all the communication channels, which you want to leverage to attract talent. In simpler words how do you want to reach out to people and vice versa?

Company WebsiteCommunications strategy

The starting point could be the company website. Validate if your company is providing prospects the opportunity to apply via your website?

Create a Careers page on the Website

Create a page on the website, it could be as basic as a “Careers” and host all the open positions within the company. Website will also give you an opportunity to add your key differentiators and employee value propositions.

Taste of your organization

Give prospects the taste of your company by hosting videos on how is it like to be part of the organization. Video may have employee testimonials on why they love the organization

Use Social media

Create a Facebook page; if your company is hesitant to be part of the social media bandwagon, they are losing out on a great opportunity to tap into the resource pool.

Content strategy for social media

Use Facebook page to put company updates and employee pictures to make the page more engaging. These pictures could include the recent employee activity or an employee event. Chances are that this Facebook page may also be used by your existing employees as a grievance tool, be prepared for that. Hence it is important that you rope in the human resource team into this project to answer those grievances.

Integrate Social media with the website

Integrate the Facebook page with your website by using social media plugins to drive traffic to your website. Encourage prospects to apply on your website but social media as a place to generate leads/prospects.
